Nicole Kidman had a baby named Sunday. I wish the paparazzi were more into exposing how she does wonderful things rather than how other celebrities do drugs/cheat on their significant others/are fat (but aren’t).

Other womanly news: Barack Obama’s stance on “partial-birth abortion” is hazy. Frankly, all of that is a load. Has anyone read into this? Most women get partial-birth abortions because they have to (it’s not like it’s fun being six months pregnant and then you want to call it quits).

I recently wrote a letter to the editor of a nearby newspaper; the publication had instituted a women’s section entitled, “Ladies Only,” which was a poor excuse of reaching their target market. Yes, newspapers are a business, but when they make a big deal about how moms have children and work at the same time, it’s begging the question, “I guess dads don’t?” Or is that just not out of the ordinary?

Yikes, I’m a firecracker. Why were so many people into the 4th? I thought everyone hated this country right now?

Female suicide bombing is a new trend for terrorist groups because of the advantages females have, allowing an accomplished mission. The New York Times reported that recently, in Iraq, females have led the attacks in 16 separate incidents.

The benefits are obvious: women are less likely to be searched because of societal symbolism, and because of privacy issues that barricade men from women. Women, of course, are also less likely suspects (in general criminology).

Because this has started as a trend, it could mean two things:

-Muslim women are going to be more likely targets of prejudice, bias, and privacy obstruction, and thus, will be reduced to an even lesser citizen (in comparison to a slave).

-The ever-sacred vagina and the body attached to it could be considered (gasp) somewhat human, and capable of committing the same devious acts as manly men of war.

It was pretty clear who had the mainstream woman’s vote a few weeks ago. All Clinton had to do was reference her anatomy and link it to some historical happening almost a century before, and bam, she was a feminist in a pantsuit.

But then what happens when she’s out? Where do these women turn? Is it Obama or McCain?

McCain has the genius idea that he can attract women voters by getting someone else to talk to them.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

She’s still into women’s rights, but not so damn liberal. Oh and she was all about Clinton when she was still up there, did she mention. They both were. They were rooting for her the whole time because they love women so much.

Wait, so is Carly Fiorina going to be by his side the whole presidency to keep talking to the women? Can she translate for four years?

Coincidentally, the age yielding the greatest amount of female fertility is also the target audience for advertising revenue. Is that where the slew of “mom” sites came from, or did someone just figure out that the wallet-sized baby photos weren’t getting enough views in the real world?

Sites like IndyMoms and CafeMom provide a forum for moms to have profiles, share photos, have a “mom” blog, compete in contests, and of course, network. This ain’t the play-Bridge-with-your-neighbor-age anymore, but at least we have still evolved the act of wasting time.

Meanwhile… sites like Rebel Dad and Great Dad discuss more pertinent things–they just aren’t that popular.

Get off the computer. You’re subliminally teaching your child that MySpace is okay.

I’m currently reading the book, The Red Tent.

Ok, so it’s fantastic, but that’s not the point. So far what I’ve gotten from it is that the natural phase of menstruation has lost its holiness and acknowledgment of sanctity and bond between women and amongst women. Blood between the legs symbolizes fertility (therefore life of course), but also the loss of life (miscarriage), and of course, the loss of virginity.

Which ironically coincided with this story from the NY Times today, about how Muslim women are getting reconstructive surgery to simulate an unbroken hymen.

I often have thought that Western society emphasizes virginity so much because of the moral purity women are supposed to uphold; I kind of still feel that way.

I remember a biology teacher once told me, “Any woman who has had sex can never choose to be a virgin again, but a virgin has all the time in the world to choose to be like that woman.” This is true.

There is something holy (and I mean in the existential sense) about the blood of the womb–in birth, in womanhood, in intercourse, in death. It comes with the moon and it comes monthly with the earth.

But virginity’s time-base is presented upon choice, not by natural forces or entirely by the body’s disposition.

Yet it feels wrong for men to advise when and when not to take that choice, and what it all means.

I suppose that’s where the bond of women are lost; and reconstructive surgery attempts to find it?

I keep telling myself the next “coming” will be through the Web. At least, that’s what I’ve been hoping. There are sure signs of it, but if women aren’t getting on the Web, then the coming will come to no one.

I heard about SheZoom.com and it gave me a little hope and a little more proof that there are other women out there with some multimedia skills, whose male-confined back-scratchers haven’t been reaching that itch.

While still in beta mode, the site already has lots of users… I’m one of them. Honestly, I can’t wait to upload a video, because I am a huge woman-adoring nerd. To join in on a YouTube-type network for the better of womankind? Shit. It almost makes the world an okay place (just okay).

I think my favorite part was, on the account questions, when it asked for gender—one of the options was, “Do not identify with gender.” Hell yes I clicked it. It even had “pansexual” as a sexual orientation option!

It’s where I have been for the past week.

I was warned of two things:

1) to chill out and realize I was going to see women exploited, regardless.

2) not to ruin the trip for everyone else.

My perception of Vegas was that provocatively dressed women would be everywhere; after all, I’ve only seen the movies. The radar should have gone off that, in fact, the stereotype was false. Most of the women you see are there with their partners, and they aren’t too young or too media-ideal. Most of the exploitation I witnessed took place in none other than Las Vegas advertising space, where the only two things you are really told to do are to be entertained, eat, and have sex.

There was a Gideon’s Bible in the hotel room.

The most unbelievable phenomenon is the access to prostitution, which is, contrary to popular belief, illegal within city limits. I’m not exactly sure just how the system works, but men stand in scattered lines tiptoeing the Vegas strip sidewalk and slapping down little trading cards on their hands; these cards bear naked prostitutes and a phone number, promising sex “direct to you” in the next 20 minutes.

The flicking sound made me upset after a while–Can’t compromise what you believe no matter where you are–Sometimes survival of the fittest will take down the fit.

One time I saw a woman flicking the cards.

Traitor.
