Nope, still does not make it ok
Headline: “Woman guilty of running D.C. call-girl ring”
Why does it seem like if the headline had said “Man guilty of running D.C. call-girl ring,” it would not have been informational?
Missing: the story
When pretty women go missing, the media goes nuts.
The BBC reported today in a very boring story that a missing girl from Wales was found. The story had no explanation, no meat, and a quote from the mom saying she was “emotional and happy.”
So why was this reported?
It might be due to the […]
In control again
I hopped, skipped, jumped and other appropriate verbs when I heard that the campaign to make birth control more affordable, which has tediously burdened the shoulders of reproductive choice advocates, actually worked.
Thanks to Sen. Mike Villarreal and Health and Human Services Commissioner Albert Hawkins, the reimbursement rate in TEXAS improved.
A reproductive rights victory in Texas? […]
Tell me a story about sexism
Helen Benedict (sociologist) has been putting thoughts into my head, and the last has horrified me. Hot news stories between Whites and Blacks are always covered by the news as racial.
And then there are the issues and crimes of sexism.
Which are often presented as, well, couldn’t tell you. Benedict pointed out the only time sexism […]
Where’s the good part?
AP released a story about contraceptives being more available to women over 40 nowadays.
Well I mean, what did you expect in comparison to the other majority of age groups who just can’t afford it, and or don’t need it? My grandma probably doesn’t care (I hope) and I’m sure my colleagues all feel that shelling […]
Media’s “rape”: it’s mythology
The rape myths the media creates through rape coverage, as noted by sociologist Helen Benedict, come complete with factors that often lead the media to blame the victim. These are the factors:
If she knows the assailant.
If no weapon is used.
If she is of the same race.
If she is of the same class.
If she is of […]
April tools
In an article by the BBC today entitled, “10 stories that could be April Fools…but aren’t,” two little stories are worth mentioning by this sob sister.
First off, UK women are now able to get an injection to increase the size of their g-spot for about $1,600. What a nice follow up to the discovery of […]
Props to Mariela Castro
With Raul Castro in the hot seat, and his daughter Mariela the head of the National Sex Education Center in Cuba, good things are happening for the Cubans that probably won’t happen in the States until a black man and a white woman running for the presidency is not such a big deal.
M. Castro has […]
UT gender study tells us what we know
In a study conducted by University of Texas psychology professor David Buss, we learn that what we had suspected was right: men think they can get any woman they want.
Although, the study actually highlighted women’s selectivity in choosing a mate (to which the published article consequently bore the title “Do Attractive Women Want it All?”), […]
Let’s get together, ya ya ya
It may just be the liberal insanity of Austin, Texas, or it could be a lot of America–ask someone who they want for president and the common answer is either Obama or Clinton.
And it’s a standard answer–but let’s say I asked this last election, or the election before. It seemed that the disparity between […]
