From abomination to an Obama nation, the streets quieted, flags flapped, and the eyes of our colleagues locked. It may seem like this would be the precise time to be speechless, but today, January 20, 2009, “Happy Obama Day,” tends to act as a phrase of prevalence.
At first I viewed it in multiple text messages. I heard it in the classroom from professors and students. I witnessed it written on Facebook walls.
The phrase “Obama Day” is no trend—Some places and people are taking it seriously.
Perry County of Alabama has named the second Monday of November a national holiday: “Obama Day.” The BBC has referred to today as ‘Obama Day’ in getting reactions from is constituents. And according to the Topeka Capitol-Journal, plans exist to promote a national day for Obama throughout the land.
It might or might not come to be recognized everywhere and for all time, but to those who heard the quiet streets and sat eyes locked with friends and family, it seems the words they will remember speaking after speechlessness were “Happy Obama Day.”
