The economic scorn for porn

My favorite news story of the day, and perhaps of all time, begins with the headline: “Porn industry seeks $5 billion federal bailout.”
My favorite quote of the day (of course, it’s within this story), or perhaps of all time, is from my dear friend Larry Flynt, who was quoted in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution saying:
“People are too depressed to be sexually active,” Flynt said in a news release. “This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such, but they cannot do without sex.”
This of course presents the generic arithmetical equation of:
Porn=sex, therefore, United States citizens=stupid enough to spend tax money on bailing out the porn industry.
Incorrect.
