SPANX leaves a mark

Does anyone feel awkward watching a technologically advanced corset being advertised on television?
Or maybe feel awkward when advertising refers to “what’s on the inside” as the fat that it wants you to pay to hide from everyone?

And what else is a little off-the-heezy awkward is that inventor Sara Blakely is supported by powerful women (Oprah) and was voted the entrepreneur of the year.
Is she really helping body image or making it more surreal? Also, I’ll be waiting on the men’s line of body slimmers. My male friends are concerned about their panty lines.

i don’t think it’s too weird. the silhouette the corset brings is something inherently attractive to a man and women know that. and i think oprah likes it because it’s a nod to the women with more shape who want to “tone up/slim up” their bodies in ways exercise can’t because of age/weight loss. it’s a beauty product; and when all beauty ads are examined they’re kind of… silly.
and i’m actually rather interested in the “technological” aspect. hmm.. tech + beauty.
