The “Christian values” couple pedestal

Unfortunately I will have to make another post about the Freis’ from Here Come the Newlyweds.

The show itself allows both genders to fall into blatant stereotypes. One activity the couples had to participate in included the husbands guessing what flaws the wives felt they had about their bodies because, of course, women are always self-conscious about something on their body.

Dawn Freis felt like she had flabby arms and that her butt was not tight enough. She also wished that her hair was naturally blond. Don’t we all.

Ironically, this couple only got married in a courthouse, which is not even a recognized marriage in the Church (I went to Catholic school, and I have been one-upping them the whole show). It’s rather contradictory that their claim to fame is Christian values when technically they are not even married, and technically they treat all of the other couples like inferiors.

The stereotypical “funny, loving” couple got kicked off last show because the producers of the show wanted to keep the Freis’ on for ratings–aka, they needed a really big bitch on the show and a man who has not come out yet due to the fact he’s scared of the wrath of his god.

Mainstream networks like ABC syndicate this crap (and by the way, I do NOT contribute to ratings because of downloading :]) in order to elevate this kind of morality. What does it prove that too skinny white Christian people will win a contest versus the stereotypes of ethnic relationships, interracial relationships, high school romances, middle-class relationships, and minority relationships?

It proves that this show was fashioned after a Disney movie. Dawn Freis will wear a pretty pink gown and Cody Freis will pick her up in his pumpkin with the new shoes he picked out for her (and they’ll fit).
